COMMON QUESTIONS

What's an ELV fault and why does my Mercedes keep saying "Steering Lock Defective"?
The ELV (Electronic Steering Lock) is a known failure point on W204, W207, W212, and W218 Mercedes models. The internal motor wears out, causing a no-start condition. Dealers quote $1,500–3,500 for a full column replacement. We repair the actual module for $299–$450 — permanent fix, mail-in available.
Can you program a used SAM or EIS module into my Mercedes?
Yes. We virginize the used module, flash correct firmware via XENTRY, perform SCN coding online, and sync it to your vehicle. Covers SAM (front and rear), EIS (ignition switch), ISM (gear selector), ECU, TCU, and more. Much cheaper than $1,000+ new from Mercedes.
What is FBS4 and do I need it for key programming?
FBS4 is Mercedes' 4th generation keyless entry and start system, used on W205, W213, W222, and newer models. It requires online XENTRY access and Mercedes server authentication to program new keys. This is a dealer-level procedure — most locksmiths cannot do FBS4 work. We have full online access.
Should I repair my ELV or delete it with an emulator?
If your ELV has failed once, repair is the cheaper option ($299). If it's failed multiple times, the emulator delete ($150–$300) eliminates the module entirely — no future failures possible. Both options are permanent. We can advise based on your model and failure history.
Which Mercedes modules can I mail in?
ELV units, EIS modules, SAM modules, ISM gear selectors, ECU, TCU, and instrument clusters — all bench-programmable via mail-in. Key programming (FBS4), CarPlay retrofit, and coding packages require the vehicle present at our shop.
