That assumption breaks quietly. A windshield replaced after a winter crack, an alignment done because Cambridge potholes finally won, struts swapped on a car that's spent a decade on Broadway's frost heaves — each of those changes the geometry the camera was calibrated against. The car throws no code. The lane-keep still tugs the wheel. It's simply doing all of it a little off-center, and "a little" is not a margin you want in a city this dense.
The pattern we hear from Cambridge drivers: glass gets replaced at home or at work — often in a Kendall or Alewife parking structure — and the installer either never mentions calibration or promises the camera will "self-learn." Some systems do refine dynamically, but nearly all of them require a formal procedure first, with targets, measurements and a scan tool signing off.
